Villamartin is a long established golfing resort situated just 2 km from several Blue Flag sandy beaches and about 7km from the town of Torrevieja.
The complex currently consists of three 18-hole golf courses, with two more about to be constructed. It is easy to play on each course with no lengthy booking process and the greens fees are cheap for Spain. Each course presents the golfer with a different test, be it of accuracy from the tee, a skillful short game, or course management. There is a challenge for everyone whether they are a beginner or a professional.
The original course is Villamartin, which is still the top course to play having hosted the Mediterranean Open and other prestigious competitions in the past. There are many beautiful views, trees, shrubs and wildlife but the most interesting feature is a dry water course that winds its way throughout the 18 holes, challenging the most accomplished golfer.
The sister course to Villamartin and La Finca is Las Ramblas. The course is carved out of the original pine forest and, as its name suggests, is criss crossed by dry water courses. The natural flora and the wildlife make this a very attractive course.
Despite being a short course by modern standards, it is considered the most challenging. There is a premium on straight driving from the tee and accurate iron shots into the small, fast greens.
The third course is Royal Campoamor. Sitting high above the surrounding area, the clubhouse has spectacular views across the course, of the Mediterranean Sea and all the way to La Manga. The impressive bar and dining area is a great place to relax and unwind after a round of golf, or just to meet socially.
The golf course is the longest of the three, but offers wide fairways. It is very tempting to have a go with a big drive but, positioning is a must if the green is to be reached.
At night the area is buzzing with a great selection of bars and restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets.
